John Deere Parla Innovation Center: The Future of High-Value Crops
Located in Parla, just a few miles from downtown Madrid, the John Deere Parla Innovation Center has established itself as a leading European hub for applied research and the development of innovative solutions for agriculture.
Created to bring innovation closer to growers while fostering collaboration among companies, startups, and technology centers, the facility is home to a wide range of initiatives aimed at improving the sustainability, efficiency, and profitability of modern farming. The center is a clear example of public-private collaboration and a strong commitment to precision agriculture. It serves as a space where solutions integrating artificial intelligence, sensors, IoT systems, and digital platforms are conceived, tested, and validated. Many of these technologies are developed in partnership with industry leaders such as Agromillora, Yara, Spherag, Biome Makers, Graniot, Azud, AGQ Labs, and ID David, among others. Some of the projects currently underway include:
ATLAS Project: Smart and Automated Irrigation
ICARUS Project: Precision Foliar Nutrition
SISYPHOS Project: Efficient Fertigation in Citrus
A collaboration among Yara, Spherag, and John Deere, the SISYPHOS project seeks to document the benefits of optimized water and nutrient management compared with conventional practices in citrus orchards.
Through the use of sensors, digital platforms such as YaraPlus Fertigation, and IoT devices, the project collects key metrics including yield, carbon footprint, and water footprint, generating knowledge that can be applied to other perennial crops.
