The Workshop on Rootstocks of European and Tropical Fruit Tree Crops has come to an end!
This workshop brought together 30 international experts in tropical and European crops to discuss rootstock selection, grafting, and resilient production systems, from 10 institutions and companies across Europe, Vietnam, and Nicaragua.
The goal was to discuss solutions to accelerate innovation and advance sustainable agriculture in the face of climate challenges.
The workshop on grafting on fruit tree crops was organized as part of the BOLERO project by Agromillora and CIRAD, and hosted by Agromillora.
Participants had the opportunity to present their latest research and exchange experiences related to rootstocks and grafting on both European and tropical fruit tree crops: Citrus, Grapevine, Deciduous fruits, Rubber, Oil Palm.
A particular focus was on coffee and cocoa, since these two tropical crops are the model species used in BOLERO. They also visited Agromillora Iberia’s facilities to gain first-hand insight into current technologies for propagation, used in European fruit crops.
The workshop concluded with a round table, leading to a productive discussion among experts in European and tropical fruit tree crops, focusing on opportunities to enhance adaptive strategies for these cultivars.
The workshop concluded with a visit to a DO Penedès vineyard in Torrelavit (Barcelona), where participants could see the wine and cava production process, vineyard management practices, and enjoy a wine tasting.
